What is Early Childhood Screening?
Early Childhood Screening
Early Childhood Screening is a check of a child's vision, hearing, height, weight, immunizations, speech and language, motor skills and general development. It is a state mandate for Kindergarten entrance.
Should I wait until my child is five to be screened so she/he will do better?
No! Screening is normed by age so there is no advantage to waiting. In fact, to ensure school success, screenings are done at about three and a half years old, so parents can gain information and resources for readiness in school. Children are screened one at a time and individual attention is given to the needs of the child and family.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Screenings are scheduled throughout the school year, are free and take about one hour. Please call when your child is 3 years, 3 months old and schedule an appointment. (Call earlier if you have questions or concerns about your child's development.) Screening appointments should be made in your home school district.
